What is LASIK Surgery?

LASIK surgery (Laser-assisted in situ Keratomileusis) is also known as laser eye surgery. Most patients (about 96%) achieve amazing results that allow them to live without the need for glasses or contact lenses after surgery. The surgery involves altering the shape of the cornea. Your brain will then be able to process the light received at the back of the eye properly, resulting in improved vision.

What is LASIK surgery used for?

Laser eye surgery is used to treat a number of different eye problems such as Hypertropia, Presbyopia, Astigmatism, Myopia (nearsightedness), and Hyperopia (farsightedness).

Will I feel any pain?

LASIK surgery is painless because the eye is numbed before the laser is used.

What are the benefits of LASIK Surgery?

Imagine the freedom of no longer wearing glasses. No more worrying about losing or damaging your lenses, or not being able to wear sunglasses!

What are the risks of laser surgery?

There is a very small chance of complications arising from laser surgery. Infection, a slipped flap, dry eye, halo vision, or even vision loss can occur.

Dilation Eye Exams

Dilation Eye Tests La Palma, CA & Newport Beach, CA

Evaluating your health through your eyes

The pupil dilation eye tests in La Palma are crucial for those who might be most at risk for eye disease.

Your eye doctor, Dr. Bold, will use a variety of instruments to examine your eyes. To enable the optometrist to be able to see the internal structures of your eyes, he will introduce drops that cause your pupils to dilate.

It usually takes 20-30 minutes before the drops begin to take effect. Once dilated, more light than normal will be passing into your eyes, which will cause you to be more sensitive than usual to light.

The effects of the drops can last for several hours after the procedure. Please bring a pair of sunglasses with you to your eye exam to alleviate the extra light sensitivity when you leave your optometry consultation.

If you are in need of a dilation eye test in La Palma, call to schedule an appointment today, (949) 644-0165.

Glaucoma Screening

Optometrists all agree that regular exams play an important role in protecting the long-term quality of eyesight of our society.

I've heard of Glaucoma, but what is it?

Glaucoma is a disease of the eye that damages the Ocular nerve responsible for sending messages to the brain. Intraocular pressure can build up inside the eye, which becomes uncomfortable.

Oftentimes, glaucoma is not diagnosed until the patient starts to complain of a partial loss of vision, which makes is it so dangerous. Further vision loss and eventual blindness can follow without correct treatment of the diseased eye.

Am I at risk of Glaucoma?

Orange County Optometry guidelines are that anyone over the age of 40 should have annual Glaucoma screening to detect it before loss of vision or damage to the eye can occur.

Which tests are used to detect the presence of Glaucoma?

Painless tests are used to measure the IOP, one of which is the dilation test.

How is Glaucoma treated?

Eye drops are the principal course of action in most cases; they are used to try and decrease the pressure building up in the eye. If applied multiple times per day as directed by the doctor, they can be extremely effective in most cases. If eye drops fail to work, surgery will be required to drain the built-up fluid in the eye.

If you are looking for an experienced eye doctor in Orange County, please contact us as soon as possible to arrange your initial consultation. Whether you live in La Palma or one of the surrounding cities, such as Buena Park, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, or further away, we will be pleased to welcome you and offer you the red-carpet treatment you deserve!

Macular Degeneration Screening

What is Macular Degeneration?

Macular Degeneration is often referred to as ARMD or AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration), as it is found most often in older people.

Part of the eye's retina, the Macular enables focus and centralization of vision when performing everyday tasks. As the Macular degenerates so, the loss of central vision becomes more apparent.

There are 2 types of ARMD:

Wet ARMD

Of the two types of age-related Macular Degeneration, wet ARMD is the most severe. The Macular can become scarred by leaking blood vessels that have grown on the retinal membrane.

Dry ARMD

Dry age-related Macular Degeneration is the more common of the two and is less severe, and is caused by the degeneration or death of the pigment epithelial cells of the retina.

How is ARMD treated?

There is no cure for either type howeve,r there are treatments for the symptoms and to manage the condition. Treatment will depend on which type of ARMD you have and the severity of the disease.

Macular Edema

Macular Edema is the hemorrhaging of blood vessels on the retina. This can be treated orally or with eye drops. Vision may be seriously impacted and become swollen - if these symptoms occur, please contact Dr. Bold immediately.

No matter what you are experiencing, there is always a solution. Dr. Bold will dedicate their time and their resources to making sure that you are back on your feet, feeling better than ever. Being proactive with any issue is the best way to
